Solutions to common problems with PLC Studio AI

Troubleshooting

This guide covers common issues and their solutions. If you don't find your issue here, contact support through your dashboard.

Connection Issues

Bridge Won't Connect

Symptoms:

  • "Connection failed" error
  • Bridge shows "Disconnected" status
  • Cannot see project in PLC Studio AI

Solutions:

  1. Check CODESYS is running

    • Ensure CODESYS is open with your project
    • Verify the project is not in a locked state
  2. Restart the bridge

    • In CODESYS: Tools → Script Engine → Execute Script Command
    • Select "PLC Studio AI Bridge" → "Stop"
    • Wait 5 seconds
    • Select "PLC Studio AI Bridge" → "Start"
  3. Check your internet connection

    • Try opening other websites
    • Check if your VPN might be blocking connections
  4. Verify firewall settings

    • Ensure *.plcstudio.ai is allowed
    • Check corporate firewall rules
    • Try temporarily disabling firewall to test
  5. Re-authenticate

    • In the bridge, select "Logout"
    • Log in again with your credentials

Connection Drops Frequently

Symptoms:

  • Connection works but disconnects randomly
  • Need to restart bridge often

Solutions:

  1. Check network stability

    • Use a wired connection if possible
    • Check for network congestion
  2. Update the bridge

    • Download the latest version from your dashboard
    • Replace the old script file
  3. Check system resources

    • Close unnecessary applications
    • Ensure CODESYS has enough memory

AI Issues

AI Not Responding

Symptoms:

  • Chat messages don't get responses
  • "Generating..." shows indefinitely
  • Timeout errors

Solutions:

  1. Check connection status

    • Verify the bridge is connected
    • Refresh the browser page
  2. Cancel and retry

    • Press Escape to cancel the current request
    • Try sending a simpler request
  3. Clear chat and retry

    • Use Ctrl+L or click "Clear chat"
    • Start a new conversation
  4. Check service status

    • Visit status.plcstudio.ai for outage information

AI Gives Poor Results

Symptoms:

  • Generated code doesn't match request
  • Code has obvious errors
  • AI seems to misunderstand

Solutions:

  1. Be more specific

    • Include data types explicitly
    • Describe behavior in detail
    • See Prompting Tips
  2. Provide context

    • Reference existing code in your project
    • Explain your naming conventions
  3. Break down the request

    • Make smaller, focused requests
    • Build up incrementally
  4. Rephrase the request

    • Try different wording
    • Add examples of what you want

Compilation Errors

Errors Don't Match CODESYS

Symptoms:

  • PLC Studio AI shows different errors than CODESYS
  • Errors persist after fixing

Solutions:

  1. Sync the project

    • Click the refresh button in PLC Studio AI
    • Save all files in CODESYS first
  2. Compile in CODESYS

    • Do a clean build in CODESYS
    • Compare the error messages
  3. Restart the bridge

    • Stop and restart to force resync

Compilation Not Running

Symptoms:

  • No compilation feedback after accepting changes
  • Errors panel stays empty

Solutions:

  1. Check auto-compile setting

    • Go to Settings → Compilation
    • Ensure "Auto-compile" is enabled
  2. Trigger manual compile

    • Press Ctrl+Shift+B
    • Or compile in CODESYS directly
  3. Check CODESYS state

    • Ensure project is not in online mode
    • Check if CODESYS is waiting for input

Project Explorer Issues

Project Not Showing

Symptoms:

  • Project explorer is empty
  • Only partial project visible

Solutions:

  1. Check project is open in CODESYS

    • Verify the correct project is open
    • Ensure project is not read-only
  2. Refresh the explorer

    • Click refresh button or press F5
    • Wait for sync to complete
  3. Check bridge output

    • Look for errors in the CODESYS output window
    • Check if bridge has access to project files

Changes Not Appearing in CODESYS

Symptoms:

  • Accept changes but CODESYS doesn't update
  • Need to manually refresh CODESYS

Solutions:

  1. Check CODESYS is not in edit mode

    • Close any open editors in CODESYS
    • Avoid editing the same POU in both places
  2. Force sync

    • In CODESYS, close and reopen the POU
    • Or reload the project

Authentication Issues

Can't Log In

Symptoms:

  • Login fails repeatedly
  • "Invalid credentials" error
  • Authentication loop

Solutions:

  1. Check credentials

    • Verify email and password are correct
    • Try password reset if unsure
  2. Clear browser data

    • Clear cookies for plcstudio.ai
    • Try incognito/private window
  3. Check account status

    • Verify your subscription is active
    • Check email for any account notices

Session Expires Quickly

Symptoms:

  • Need to log in frequently
  • Token expired errors

Solutions:

  1. Check browser settings

    • Ensure cookies are enabled
    • Check if browser clears data on close
  2. Update browser

    • Use latest browser version
    • Try a different browser

Performance Issues

Slow Response Times

Symptoms:

  • UI feels sluggish
  • Long delays between actions

Solutions:

  1. Check system resources

    • Close unnecessary browser tabs
    • Free up system memory
  2. Check network

    • Test internet speed
    • Try a different network
  3. Reduce project size

    • Close unused POUs
    • Consider splitting large projects

High Memory Usage

Symptoms:

  • Browser becomes unresponsive
  • System slows down

Solutions:

  1. Refresh the page

    • Press F5 to refresh
    • This clears accumulated memory
  2. Close other tabs

    • PLC Studio AI works best in its own window
    • Close unnecessary browser tabs
